This software runs on Windows and Mac.  It is an improvement over FCv2 but they can be run simultaneously. That means you do not have to lose access to your data while learning the new features included with FCA.  Once you learn FCA, you can import all your notes, photos, and all the user database information from FCv2 to FCA. Your initial purchase includes a six-month subscription to updates for the database and the password will be emailed once the order has been processed. If you already have such a subscription, six months will be added to the end of it.
